CITB unveils new leadership training

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has launched 11 short training courses on leadership and management.

The training provides support in areas such as leading and organising teams, handling difficult situations, and problem solving. It has been developed in consultation with the construction industry.

Students can focus on one module as a short course, or take a pick-and-mix approach by taking several different courses.

Levy-registered employers can receive short duration grant support of between £70 and £120 for each module. In-person, and live remote training is offered.

Participants wishing to study further could go on to complete the Construction ILM Level 3 Award or Certificate in Leadership and Management Practice.

Core competency

Managing director of CITB approved trainer The Power Within Training, James Fleming, said: “Leadership and management is a core competency of any successful and thriving business. It is required more today than at any other time in history.”

CITB head of standards and qualifications strategy Dawn Hillier added: “The new leadership and management courses offer a fantastic opportunity. Not just for employees already at that level, but also for those with big career ambitions, keen to progress into a supervisory or managerial role.

“This training could make a big impact, providing the step up someone needs.

“I’m delighted we have been able to launch this highly requested training with the support of the short duration grant.

“With an estimated demand for an additional 50,000 workers every year, it’s becoming increasingly important to develop the behavioural skills of the construction managers of today and leaders of tomorrow.”
